Crossed 1000 miles on the way home from work. I’ve put almost 700 miles on it in the 2 weeks I have owned it (picked it up with 322 miles on it after it was transferred from a dealer in CT to the one in White River, and then up to Burlington where I picked it up). I thought I was going to gain the 4th digit on the way to the autocross this weekend but my department decided to go out to lunch today so I crossed it earlier than expected.
In other news the distance to empty is a load of crap. On the last tank I went 40 miles past when it said I had 0 miles of range and still only ended up putting 10 gallons into the 13.2 gallon tank.

They do that on purpose. My Lexus did the same thing, I was consistently putting 13-14 gallons into a 16.9 gallon tank when drive to empty was 15 miles.
I’m going to blame this as a reaction against neglectful owners more than anything else. Plus I’m just going to frame it as a way to keep my fuel pump from accidentally starving.

I think they just program a distance into it and ignore what the actual economy is. Both times I have filled it it has gone to 409 miles.

I can’t say about Toyota, but the ones on my Volvos have definitely changed based on economy.

My Mini did too. Toyota just seems to tick away the 409 miles 1 mile at a time.

Mine seemed to do the math, as depending on my mood I can get wildly varying mpg. Definitely a difference between miles to end at 12 mpg vs 23 mpg. Strange that your Toyota doesn’t, but then again, I know H ondas do that kind of thing with the oil change meter and oil life. 5k miles, regardless of load.

My families Subarus do the math. Heck, one time I did a 2 hour round trip in the Legacy 3.6r my mom had at the time and got home with 10 more miles of range than I left with.

Every Toyota I have ever driven is like that—and the fuel light comes on at like 1/4 tank, if not more . I once drove 70- 80 miles in Mrs. RPM’s Rav4 after it said it had 0 miles left (on a rural highway in Montana—there was a gas station halfway along that stretch but it was closed, so we didn’t have much choice ) . In my 4th gen 4Runner, despite the lower gas mileage, no matter how low the DTE gets and how long the fuel light is on I’ve never managed to put more than 18-19 gallons into it. It has a 23 gallon tank!
It’s a trip switching back to something German, where very soon after you hit 0 DTE you will run out of gas.

Yeah, a lot of distance-to-empty counters overestimate so they ensure you don’t run out. I have no such thing in my Accent, so I use the ‘seat-of-my-pants’ method of guessing how far yet I can go.

don’t usually ever let it get quite

low, but considering my Accent has a 45L tank, I’m getting pretty good at it when need be apparently!

Still better than my car. When the gas light it on, you’re not low; you’re OUT -- like 15 miles maybe . My fault for pushing the limits.

I haven’t seen the gas light on this car yet. I’ve only driven it to 1/8th tank so far.

I think range is kind of lame. Especially like on my dad's old MDX that responded heavily to immediate fuel economy. Sit at a stopight: drop two miles. Cruise at 45: no change for several minutes.

This one just starts at 409 and then ticks of 1 mile for every .8 miles or so you drive. You hit 0 miles of range at about 1/4 tank.

Wow, you can really get 400 miles out a single tank? That's pretty boss for a Corolla

With the 35 + mpg I have been getting (dash number is lifetime of the car as far as I can tell) and the 13.2 gallon tank I should be able to get over 450 miles with minimal effort.
In the 2006 Corolla I put up with for about a year the gas light would come on like clockwork at 400 miles. You would get 350 miles from the first half of the tank and then suddenly you would be out after the next 50. The way the bottom half of that tank drained almost caught me out a couple times.

God, I wish I had the money -- or need -- for an XSE hatch. My range is maybe 325 miles. My gas light turned on with 298 last time.

I still love it. I need to write a review on it once I do my first autocross with it this weekend. Only complaint I have at the moment is that the stock tires are quite loud.
